What are multimodal projects?

Multimodal: multiple & more, multiple different ways of communicating.

Mode: communicating through words/pictures.

Multimodality: combination of modes, creates the full piece of communication.

The Five Modes Of Communication

Visual/Gestural/Linguistic/Aural/Spatial

            1. Linguistic Mode: The use of language; written or spoken words.

                           

    Ex: Music videos, commercials. etc.,

2. Visual Mode: use of images.

Ex: Billboards, T.V, Flyers, Websites, etc.,

Visual mode is used to communicate representation..

How something looks

How something feels

To instruct

To persuade

To entertain

Includes color, layout, style, size & perspective.

3. Aural Mode: sound.

Ex: Speech, sound effects, video demos, silence, tone of voice, music, accent, etc., 

4. Spatial Mode: about physical arrangement

Helps us to understand why things in places are arranged in certain ways to encourage specific behavior. For example a classroom.

    Arrangement                            Organization                    Proximity between people or objects

5. Gestural Mode: movement/body language

Ex: facial expressions, body language, hand gestures, interaction between two people
