Multimodal Outline


What are Multimodal Projects?

I.            What is a multimode?


A.       Various combinations of ways we communicate in everyday life


B.      Multimodal can be academic essays, biology posters, statistical power point presentation, and lolcats. Multimode text includes multimedia such as, sound, visual and movement.


C.       Five modes of communication: Linguistic, visual, aural, gestural, and spatial.


II.            Linguistic Mode


A.      Examples:


1.       Word Choice


2.       The delivery of spoken or written text


3.       The organization of writing or speech into phrases, sentences, paragraphs, etc.


4.       The development and coherence of individual words and ideas.


B.      The linguistic mode teaches the writer or the speaker to choose your choice of words and phrases carefully so you don’t offend your audience.


III.            Visual Mode


A.      Example:


1.       Color, layout, style, size, and perspective.


2.       Billboards, flyers, television, web sites, lighted advertising displays and grocery store shelves.


B.      The visual mode is a visual illustration to get your attention to read information and it’s a form of communication.


IV.             Aural Mode


A.      Example:


1.       Music, sound effects, ambient noise, silence, tone of voice in spoken language, volume of sound, and emphasis and accent.


B.      Aural mode communicates with people through sound effects. 


2.        When you’re watching a horror movie you know something going to happen through the intense background music.


V.             Spatial Mode


A.      Example:


1.       Arrangement, organization, proximity between people or objects


B.      The spatial serves a very important role in writing.  It must be clear, organize or arrange so that the reader can easily follow you.


 


 


VI.            Gestural Mode


A.      Examples:


1.       Facial expression, hand gestures, body language, and interaction between people.


B.      Gestures allow the speaker to connect emotionally with the audience.
