Blogger #5: Bullying LGBTQ youth

LGBT Youth and the Bullying they endure:

Part One

  • An article from the University of New Hampshire by Paul Cody, titled: "Bullying and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/ Questioning Suicide"
https://www.unh.edu/counseling-center/article/bullying-and-lgbtq-suicide

The author, Paul Cody, talks about the issues among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth being subjected to bullying, harassment, and hate crimes across the nation. He talks about how heterosexual and non gender-variant children who can grow up without the hassle of society condemning their choices. But unlike heterosexual and cis-gender adolescents, queer and transgender youth not only go through life with a higher chance of rejection at home, they grow up with the rejection of their peers, teachers, and many of the communities they come from. Queer youth are subjected to the kind of harassment in school that is dictated as a social norm. Paul Cody points out that if we, as adults, were a victim to the hate speech and violence inflicted upon LGBTQ children, we would call the police. But instead of calling for help these children are only bashed more. People can not be taught a sexuality but they can be taught to hate. The article mentions that some politicians and religious leaders devalue the lives of LGBTQ people, and this is only mimicked by school bullies. "Some families model hate." Which makes it seem like the bullying of someone based on their sexual orientation is normal.

The rejection and bullying of LGBTQ youth has given them a higher suicide rate than heterosexual and cis-gender teenagers. It is also mentioned in the article that queer youth have a higher suicide rate of 2-4 times higher than heterosexual children. If you were put through harassment, physical violence, taunting, and rejection from the majority of your classmates, would it drive you to suicide? For the young men mentioned in the first paragraph of the article, the bullying not only destroyed these lives but it claimed them.

Paul Cody was right when he said "A teacher only saying 'Don't do that' does not effect the situation. Consequences change behavior." Our educational system should not be an outlet for children to bash their peers, especially not for something as harmless as being themselves. Bullying LGBTQ people cannot continue to be the social norm in our schools.

JAMA Network:
The Prevalence of Specific Psychiatric Disorders Among Homeless Individuals in the Inner City of Los Angeles
Paul Koegel, PhD; M. Audrey Burnam, PhD; Rodger K. Farr, MD

This article is very short and precise. The author's main point is the percentages of the people who are homeless in the city of Los Angeles. The reading shows that the majority of the homeless are people who use drugs and who are mentally disabled. the author suggests that society needs to put more attention to those people who are mentally ill and need a home.

Huffington Post

Robbie Couch

This article has fascinating news to those who are homeless. The city of LA will be having new apartments where they hope to shelter about 10,000 homeless people. This is a great idea because the city of Los Angeles is one of the cities who has more homeless people than any other city. In the area of Skid Row, in Los Angeles; in almost every street you go you see people laying down in the pavement, with hunger and living in horrible conditions. The author doesn't give his opinion of the article or a solution, but with this news who ever cares for the homeless people, it's more than a great news.

Blogger #5 (bystander effect)

http://www.townsendpress.com/uploaded_files/tinymce/writing%20and%20motvn/vv_ch14.pdf

The Bystander Effect by Dorothy Barkin

The Bystander Effect is about how us as people tend to ignore crimes/ issues that are going on around us. It's either because we are to tired, lazy, watching television, scared, don't want to deal with the police, or waiting on somebody else to make the first move. In the story it gives us different hypothetical scenarios asking the readers how would you react if you were in this situation. It then tells the story of Kitty Genovese who was a 28 year old female who was brutally murdered. Kitty was a bar manager and was on her way home at 3am she got all the way home where she parked her car in the parking lot the entrance of her apartment was 100 feet away. She noticed a strange man in the lot and walked toward the police call box. On her way there a man grabbed her and she screamed, in the process of her screaming somebody in the apartment building turned on the lights and opened the window and the attacker stabbed her as she screamed please help me. A man from the upper window yelled let that girl alone. The attacker started towards his car but when the lights went out he returned as she was trying to reach her apartment he stabbed her again. She screamed I'm dying, the lights came on and the window opened again so the attacker ran to his car and drove off. Kitty struggling finally made it into the building the attacker came back a third time to find her slumped on the floor at the foot of the stairs and stabbed her again. The murder took over 30 minutes, within those 30 minutes at least 38 people heard her screams and desperate cries but nobody called the police or came out to see what was going on. When the witness was asked why didn't they call for help or try to help her they said they didn't want to get involved, they were tired, they assumed it was a relationship quarrel. Some said they were just plain scared. Reading the story the author wants us to be more aware of what's going on around us. If we see a crime or hear a crime to call the police or try to see if you can help in anyway because a live could be saved. That could easily be one of us out there crying and screaming for help and nobody comes to even see what's going on.

There is no organization that supports the bystander effect.

 Part 1

                               Gang Violence

     Link: http://www.southcentralhistory.com/gang-history.php

This article is about today's  gang-related homicides are at an all time low. Many gang members have found themselves in jail due to a huge police focus on reducing the crime rate. At the same time, there has not been a large decrease in the number of gangs. Today, the political nature of gangs has been completely lost. For many people, gangs fill some sense of family or belonging that was missing in their life, however, it has come at a price. Gangs have had a destructive effect on the community. They have torn apart communities rather than build unity. The media has glorified and created an image of gang members as heroes and survivors. But most people that have been touched by gang violence in their own personal lives know that there is very little postivity that comes out of gangs in the community.

    J. Cole

    2014 Forest Hills Drive.

In his latest album J. Cole raps about many things that include lust, ambition, motivation, and he even talks about a life lesson. Overall I believe he speaks speaks about the fact that he considers himself to be at the top of his genre, and his rise and the struggle he went through in his rise to stardom. He mentions this in the song "Fire Squad" when he sings "a lotta niggas sat on the throne, I am the latest". His latest album is what I believe to be his greatest work yet.

The album 2014 Forest Hill debuted on 12/09/2014. It has been his best album yet. In my opinion he should of won a Grammy. He provides a quality album that speaks about his humble beginnings. The beats are unique and they truly fit to what the artist is saying. This album is everything what hip-hop is.

                    J. Cole is and artist that you want to listen to. There is no one like him, because he provides lyrics that hit you and you are just left saying "daaamm!". From "Love Yours" that teaches you that money is not everything, to "Fire Squad" which uses an awesome verse that describes how "the system" is realizing that white rappers sell better. He asserts himself as the king of hip-hop.

Hip-hop has always been to use a way to rebel against the rules or systems you disagree with. It began in the South Bronx in the 1970's in the basements of people. From there it adopted break-dancing and even graffiti was associated with this genre in its beginnings. Now it has very much changed. It is commercials and it is a multi million dollar business. However that has not stopped artist like J. Cole from creating extraordinary music that makes you get goosebumps when you listen to his beats and lyrics in his album 2014 Forest Hills Drive.

Pop rock is a genre that has been recently incorporated and has started to gain popularity in different artists. Dating back to the 1960's, and starting back in the United Kindom, pop rock has made an impression on a musical aspect. It's typical instruments involving vocals, synthesizers, electric guitar, drums, bass guitar, etc. Although starting off at the U.K, pop rock became popular in the U.S around the same time in the 1960's.

    Description
"Death of a Bachelor"  is not necessarily an indicator for pop rock, none the less, all the songs, incorporated in the albums show the diversity in lyrics, and just over all sound. Panic! At the Disco, a band that seems to be able to change their sound as the years go by, tend to have an ideal image as to where they want their music leaning towards.

    Informative
" Death of a Bachelor", is Panic! At the Disco's  latest album which was released 2016, not only is it new, but has quickly gone up the charts, and being one of their most successful albums out, other than their previous album, " Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die" released October 8, 2013. Which also incorporated pop rock. Death of a Bachelor is able to use pop rock, and shift it into a more classical and Frank Sintra vibe, which he does in a few songs with in the album, and as he started leaning towards that direction for the past five years now.

    Persuasive
Brendon Urie, lead singer of Panic! Is actually the one to go behind all of the band's themes, going from theatrical, to giving of a Beetles type of sound in his early work, Death of a Bachelor, has a distinct sound that you won't be able to come across, giving off deep meaning in lyrics, Brendon talks about personal experiences, as someone listening, you get a glimpse at everything that has led to that exact moment, and that exact sound. Being energetic, having some upbeat sound, inns few songs, and mellowing out, and having something that a fan, or anyone, can just vibe too and have playing around the house at any time, being well done and being Brendon Urie's first solo album, without having the band co-write any songs in the album itself. A true master piece.

"Arde el Cielo"(The Sky is Burning) by Mana

    Definition:
Spanish rock is a genre that has evolved over the years. It started in the late years of 1950's where the idea of Spanish rock aroused. It was not until the years of 1980's and 1990's where Spanish rock expanded worldwide. During that time young Mexican musicians were hosting a movement called "Rock en Tu Idioma" (Rock in your language) demanding for the right to make rock music in their native language. This movement was a great example for other musicians to make rock music worldwide. In appreciation to this movement, Spanish rock has expanded and is appreciated by many listeners today.

    Description:
The album's title can be confusing. "Arde el Cielo"(The Sky is Burning) single track is about social issues that the world faces. Though the purpose of this album is not to reflect on the social issues. Mana's goal in this album was to recapitulate their old trending songs. They wanted to offer the audience the evolution of their musical career in this album. The album involves songs of their live performances, a cover song of a romantic Spanish song, and of course the album's title. This album's intention was to go back in time and delight with the band's greatest hits.

    Informative:
"Arde el Cielo"(The Sky is Burning) is one of Mana's best selling album. it was recorded during their tour in 2005, but was released on April 29, 2008. The song "Arde el Cielo"(The Sky is Burning) was composed by the vocalist and was produced by the drummer. The song focuses on the social problems that the world faces. The goal of this song is to get listeners to get into action and realize that the society that surrounds us has been manipulating, changing, and even destroying our lives and we haven't stoop up to fight back. With this it just leaves us listeners with the question of what are we doing to stop this?

    Persuasive:
Are you the kind of person that says "I hear all kind of music genre"? Mana is a Mexican Spanish rock band who has successfully evolved over time and has kept the legacy of Spanish rock alive. They have produced many albums, and have sold over 40 million records worldwide. Their album "Arde el Cielo" is an album that has many of their tracks that made them be successful in their musical career, and of course is no exception. This album can give you a short souvenir of the band's greatest hits. It can also give you the experience of being in one of their sold out concerts, hearing them give a memorable performance. It even has a song that makes you reflect on social issues if you identify yourself as a social activist. Mana's album "Arde el Cielo" is an album that is very precise and to the point. If you find yourself asking what to hear next, you should consider hearing "Arde el Cielo" an album made by one of Mexico's amazing rock band, Mana.

    Type of Paragraphs:

Descriptive: The House of Balloons is a mixtape by The Weeknd. The album tone has a mixture of everything all combined from r&b, indie rock, and soul.  The first song of the whole mixtape will leave you your mind, heart, and soul wanting more. R&b and soulful singing were everywhere in the every song. Sounds and instrumentals were create from samples and producers. The mixtape has catchy songs that will have you in your feelings that's if you can feel the connection between the music and you.

Informative: House of Balloon is the first mixtape out of the three that was later combined to create the Trilogy. The Weeknd is a canadian singer that created House of Balloons. The mixtape dropped for free on his website on March, 21 2011. The album has nine tracks that were created by Doc Mckinney, Dream Machine, Jeremy Rose, and The Weeknd. The Weeknd then later uploads his first official music video “The Knowing” on his Vimeo page. This mixtape got the population for the next mixtape which got 180,000 people to listen to it by the end of the day.

Persuasive:  Abel Tesfaye is The Weeknd. The Weeknd is Abel Tesfaye. If you know about The Weeknd now before all his successful albums now just take the moment to listen to the House of Balloons which was his first mixtape that created all the success he has now. When listening to it starts off slow but then you start to feel the vibe. It's the type of music you play at a party at 5am when the party hasn't stopped it just gives it a chilly flow. His crafted in music is dark and sexual yet it's so catchy. The Weeknd gives you his music for nothing.

Informative: The r&b singer The Weeknd gives you R&B and Soul with a little taste of indie rock, dream pop tunes, and trip hop. The r&b makes the sound stand out and the soul makes the expression unique by pain and experience. The genres play the main role by falling in R&B, Soul, and etc. The Weeknd combines these genres to create his craft of music.

Conclusion: The first mixtapes/albums are always the main role for artists. Every artist has to make a name for themselves and every artist has their own unique style just like The Weeknd. House of Balloons was just the beginning to his journey in the music industry. The population he has gained as the pop star as of today was all by music. The R&B style and mind is one of the perks he has to give to his audience around the world.

    Persuasive

As a fan of Sam Smith I would highly recommend his music. Not only because I personally listen to it, but his music has a well blended sound. Then, I also think and feel that his music is tranquil while doing any other tasks. Best of all, that makes his music unique is the change in his high and low vocal chords absolutely make his music outstanding. As I had mentioned, I would definitely want for you take this album in consideration.

    Definition

Above all, his music stands in between pop and soul music. Pop music is considered one of the highest known genre which stands for popular. It is to say the popular music that mostly radios play. It's like the most catchiest songs are put down as pop. Soul music is more rhythm, blues and jazz sounds. For instance, Smith's instruments vary depending on his choice of music. Like the soft tab on the cymbal and piano say a lot to the genre. Which is why Sam Smith's stays in between.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys

    Description:

The Beach Boys created the album "Pet Sounds" in 1964, releasing it in May of 1966. the album is a new twist to Pop music. The album is drastically different from anything the Beach Boys had ever created. Their former albums were about young love, surfing, and California youth culture. Their new album "Pet Sounds", was about teenage angst, life changes, and broken hearts. The sound of the music changed from their traditional California sound to psychedelic rock, alternative rock, and art rock. It was the turning point of the bands music career.

    Informative:

The Beach Boys consisted of five members: Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, and Al Jardine. Although they were not all blood related, the band members called each other brothers. Brian Wilson, the lead vocalist and song writer of the band, is the mastermind behind the album "Pet Sounds". While the band toured in 1964, Brian Wilson took a year off to work on a new album for the band. He put together an orchestra with some of the best musicians in Los Angeles, which came to be called "The Wrecking Crew". After a year of recording the new sounds that the album would consist of, in 1965, the band members flew back to California to record their vocals on the album.

    Persuasive:

Although it was not known then, "Pet Sounds" changed music history. As well as traditional instruments, Brian Wilson added bicycle bells, coca cola cans, dog barks, and even more to the sound of the orchestra. He even went so far as to lift up the roof of a piano and pluck the strings with bobby pins. The lyrics of the album are sensational. Brian Wilson was a lyrical genius at the young age of 23. He made classic hits to "Wouldn't It Be Nice," to "God Only Knows". Today this album can easily be called one of the greatest albums ever made.

    Definition:

When The Beach Boys switched from their classic upbeat sound to Psychedelic rock, it was one of the firsts of its kind. Not many artists had done it before. The music they created is made to close your eyes and listen. The term psychedelic rock came from the 60's. It is most commonly known as music that is so different, it can have a mind altering effect on the audience.

    Description:
Ciara's Evolution cd is about life. The different stages we go through as humans. For instance being in love, regardless of our age we've all been in love. Being with someone that either our friends or family didn't approve of. Somebody who just wasn't right for us and all the going back and forth from break ups to make ups. She also introduces the different stages of music. Some party songs, some that relaxes you and make you think about your life, something that you can relate to. Thirdly the different types of dance based on the tempo of the songs. Finally the different styles of fashion. Whether its flash dance, 70's ,90's or 2000s. All of things we do now may seem new to us but its been done before our time.

    Informative:
Ciara speaks on personal experiences. She's not afraid to open up to others and let them know what she has been through. As a singer/ songwriter she wants to be able to connect to her listeners. She feels that by telling her story about relationships, she can help some of her listeners deal with the same problems if not similar. She encourages all of her listeners/fans to follow their dreams and do what's best for them regardless of what others may think. By her parents being in the military and giving back to their country Ciara wants to do the same thing rather if its through music or doing charity events.

    Persuasive:
Few people feel that Ciara's songs are all about not having a man, crying, and feeling degraded but its not. Ciara sings/ writes about things that some rappers/ singers may not want their fans to know about them. Things that they don't want to address because they may still be coping with it. But Ciara feels in order to be a great singer/ songwriter you have to connect with your fans. If listening to her cd makes you cry because you can relate to everything that she's saying then that's fine. You will definetly not be crying alone because she's crying with you as she sings the song and not only that but somebody somewhere else is doing the same thing. Some people see crying as a sign of weakness but crying only makes you stronger, everything is a lesson learned nobody's perfect. No matter how old you are listening to her cd can make you remember things from your past bad or good and its a reflection of the person you are now. Ciara also likes to have fun and loves to dance so she provides you with songs that has beats that you can't help but move and catchy hooks that makes you sing along.

    Definition:
Ciara falls under R&B, soul, pop, and crunk & b. R&B stands for rhythm and blues, which is like pop music for African americans. R&B lyrical themes often encapsulate the African-American experience of pain and the quest for freedom and joy.[3] Lyrics focus heavily on the themes of triumphs and failures in terms of relationships, freedom, economics, and aspirations. Soul is characterized by an emphasis on vocals, an impassioned improvisatory delivery, it is associated with performers. Pop music is eclectic, and borrows elements from other styles such as urban and dance. Last but not lease is crunk & b, crunk & b originated in Atlanta, Georgia by rappers Lil' Jon and the Ying Yang Twins. In Atlanta they have more of a party mood so they love songs with good beats that they can dance to but still have some kind of meaning that they can relate to.
    Introduction:
Born on October 25,1985, in Austin Texas, Ciara traveled the world as an only child of military parents. After she settled in Atlanta, Georgia as a teen and watching pop group Destiny's Child on television, she decided that music is what she wanted to pursue. Ciara wrote poems and stories as a young girl but never took it seriously until she joined a girl group called "Hearsay." The group broke up so Ciara used the opportunity to work on her songwriting skills. With influences like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna she leaned towards a soul, r&b and pop genre. In 2003 she had a meeting with producer Jazze-Pha which lead to an immediate signing with LaFace Records. She debut her hit single in 2004 along with an album. At age 18 she was dubbed 1st lady of crunk & b. Ciara wants to change the world. Though she traveled a lot she never wants to forget where she came from and the obstacles that she had to overcome in her life dating rapper Bow Wow. Traveling a lot and making stops in Germany, New York, Arizona, California and Nevada Ciara became interested in learning about different styles of fashion and dances. So she wants to introduce it to the world to let people know that just because we live in a different state/ country we are not that different and that we have more in common then we actually think. The world has given so much to us that we may not realize and appreciate. But once we realize ti we should give back to one another.

Music soulchild's album " I just wanne sing" has a great collection of songs that makes you want to sing. His music is very loving and promotes happiness and love in relationships. With the understanding that no relationship is perfect, and some people are just meant to be friends. Music soulchild makes the love for relationships happy, healthy, and joyful. His collections of songs blends into a traditional lifestyle of love that portrays a happy ending like. Boy meets girls, they both fall in love and live happily ever after.

For  people who don't care for soulful love rhymes do not feel discouraged. This may or many not be the type of music that your use to. This album was not solely made for blues fanatics, but all types of people who not only love the idea of love but love what comes along with love. Understanding that love is not perfect and comes in all shapes, colors, sizes, and in this case sounds. Aside from his beautiful lyrics, his album reflects the old school tones of rhythm and blues. Music soul child is a quality performer, singer, and songwriter, and has more to offer than just slow jams. He also added some fun songs to his album that will make you want to jump up dance and sing all at the same time.

Although music soul child has been put into the category of an r&b artist. Sometimes his lyrics and tone ofsong will   make you think otherwise. His beats are fun and high paced, and the way he sings melts like butter. Some r&b artists aren't give the proper credit they deserve in main stream television. Sometimes there music falls to deaf ears. Hopefully your open minded enough to understand that great music isn't always the most popular.

If popularity was a contest in music which it usually is. He probably wouldn't even be runner up. In his genre of music rhythm and blues, it's not just about popularity but the quality of music he's putting into the world. It's also improtant to simply make good music which is defined differently depending on who you ask. People like music that sounds good that's one thing most can agree on. Neo soul music is not just about making somebody feel good but completing  that feeling with sound. Although music soul child's been put into a category of strictly rhythm and blues for the new generation. He continues to think outside the box. While blending his blues voice with a hip hop feel that does not exclude temporary sounds. Rythm and blues is the foundation, it's been known around the world to feed a persons soul, and after you listen to music soul child's album "I just wanne sing" I'm sure he won't leave you hungry for music.

Panic! At the Disco is a alternative rock band that released their first album back in 2005. The current members of the band are Brendon Urie, (lead singer), Kenneth Harris (guitar player), Dallon Weekes (bass player) and Daniel Pawlovich (drummer). The band started off just as a few kids from Las Vegas, chasing after their dreams of becoming artists and making a living out of writing music. Brendon Urie being the only member of the original band, has taken it to different heights, creativity wise. Instead of sticking to the same genre of music, Brendon has made a blend of hip-hop Rock, and in some songs, has even mixed in a sort of classic Frank Sintra sound. When the band first started off, they were very inexperienced, as Brendon Urie stated in one of his interviews, " First starting off, we were only 18, very angtsy and just wanting to make it, but as time progressed we really did improve, not only in our sound, but depth when it came to lyrics". Continuing now with a 5th album, Panic! At the Disco continues to grow and seems as though they will continue to adjust, and be able to change their sound, while still having trails of their original themes and beats.

The Beach Boys Last Wave: Abstract
The last three original band members from The Beach Boys are Brian Wilson, his cousin Mike love, and their mutual friend Al Jardine. Brian’s brothers had passed away before the 2000’s. His brother Carl, passed away from cancer. Dennis passed away in the 80’s as the result of drowning. In 2012, Mike Love and Brian Wilson sit down to discuss a new tour for The Beach Boys. Brian and Mike are both in their seventies.
Although they now seem close in friendship and agree that family comes first, this is their first dinner together since the year 1999. Mike Love and Brian Wilson were estranged, like all The Beach Boys were. The band broke up over arguments about what direction to take the music in. Brian and Love could not be more different. In the days when they were still a band, Mike would have rather had their original surfer music while Brian preferred to branch out. They spent most of their time together in court, disputing over song credits and petty financial problems.
Despite the issues and disagreements, in 2012 they are in the middle of their 50th anniversary tour. Touring fourteen countries in seventy three days. A month before this dinner, Brian Wilson and the remaining Beach Boys had been at Capitol Studios in the hope to re-record the song “Do It Again.” In the midst of that, Brian also convinced them to record a new track called “Think About The Days.”

The Poet Behind The Doors: Jim Morrison's Poetry and the 1960's Counter-Cultural Movement

While there has been a wealth of literature on Jim Morrison, the lead singer of the Doors, little work has actually been done to engage in a serious critical study of his poetry and lyrics. As a result, critics have continually misrepresented his work (usually linking it to a drug culture), the poetic tradition from which he built, and, most importantly, his place within the context of the 1960s. Looking at both his poetry and his lyrics, this thesis begins to discover reasons for Morrison's fractured relationship with his generation. This relationship can be better understood by examining Morrison's work alongside two cultural phenomena that were incredibly popular during the 1960s: Eastern religion and also communal living. While, on the one hand, Morrison uncompromisingly insisted upon individuality, allowing people to become the creators of their own reality through their imagination, the spiritual practice of Eastern religion and the material practice of communal living on the other hand insisted upon people following specific creeds and doctrines to reach a higher level of spiritual cognition and/or inner peace. By understanding the reasons for this fractured relationship, we can not only better understand the context of "Five to One" and his notorious 1969 concert in Miami - two instances where Morrison insults his generation for their lack of willpower and their enslavement to a fixed system of order - but we can also see that Morrison himself was highly aware that his core message that he preached throughout his career (1966-71) was radically opposed to the messages and visions embraced by his generation.

How the Weeknd Went From Broke in Canada to Sharing Stage With Taylor Swift
    BY SIMON VOZICK-LEVINSON
Before he was The Weeknd, he was just Abel Tesfaye. A singer and producer. He was just shy and awkward. Rejecting interviews at times well being camera shy. He was this way until he dropped his first releases in 2011 of mixtapes. Republic Records flew to The Weeknd and the manager shut him down they said "they had no interest". Republic Records followed him for a year or so then got him to sign with them. That's when he dropped Kissland with this label. There was a time where he was spending more time in Los Angeles. Later on this opened doors for him in the soundtrack for Fifty Shades of Grey which was the song called "Earned It". Ariana Grande and did a duo called "Love Me Harder". From there he started doing collaborations with other artists and the fame grew more. Republic Records opened doors for The Weeknd but he also did. The Weeknd said "At one point, I didn't care." then he said right after "Now I want as many people to hear my music as possible." He soon puts out other songs like"Can't Feel My Face" and "Tell Your Friends" that was co-produced by Kanye West. These just talk about being homeless, nights of substance abuse, and meaningless sex. "The Hills" was a hit also combined with all the other ones. Due to this now he's on stage with Taylor Swift and the audience will know his lyrics, he says "Taylor Swift's audience can listen to me, but so can the street kids. I want to touch it all."

    Brandy Norwood

Brandy wants to bring R&B back. Yesterday afternoon, RCA and Chameleon Records invited select media to preview 11 tracks from Brandy's upcoming sixth album, "Two Eleven", dropping October 16th. It's Brandy at her most realized romantically shaky, vocally sharp and musically sound, thanks to an honors corral of producers and songwriters spanning Sean Garrett, Bangladesh, Frank Ocean, Mario Winans, Hit Boy, Ester Dean, Harmony and more.

Over the course of her decades long career, Brandy has become a woman before our eyes, outgrowing the baby lamb naïveté of 1994 Brandy and assuming the role of self actualized woman (2002's Full Moon). It was with 2004 Afrodisiac that she faltered in her steps, openly wallowing in a bitter divorce, before rising above the dancing flames on 'O8's Human. On Two Eleven, she juggles heartache and romantic solace, a nod to past delusions filtered through the hindsight of 33- year old reticence.

Throughout "Two Eleven", a nod to her birthday and the date of mentor Whitney Houston's death, Brandy is as quick to pledge allegiance to lovers as she is to scorn them. On the upcoming Sean Garrett- penned single " Wildest Dreams," the follow up to lead track " Put It Down" ( featuring Chris Brown), the emotional rug is pulled from under her: " Never in my wildest dreams did I think someone could care about me/ not just the way you love me, but you know I'm emotional.

"Two Eleven" still a work in progress set to include 15 tracks, also features the Frank Ocean  written "Scared of Beautiful," which will become a duet pending the Odd Future singer's vocal addition. Over double time instrumentation, Brandy stops seeking reciprocity and focuses inward. "I wonder why there's no mirrors on these walls no more / You can't tell me why you're so terrified of beautiful," she sings. She's looking only to herself- no man to safety net her feelings and she is ready to face her reflection.
